Warranty Information
About Us
At Prairie Barnwood, we take pride in crafting handmade, high-quality furniture using both authentic reclaimed barnwood and premium new wood (upon request). We stand behind our craftsmanship and offer the following limited warranty coverage for our products. Prairie Barnwood is the one and only wood working shop in central Canada hand making each piece of furniture to fit your home using reclaimed barnwood.
Where our wood comes from:
Every piece of furniture at Prairie Barnwood is made from reclaimed boards and timbers, unless otherwise specified. All the barns we dismantle are located in Manitoba and Ontario. The barns are all 80 to 100 years old. The species are generally pine, fir, hemlock, and sometimes Manitoba oak. The wood we use is full of inherent character, blemishes, holes, and various textures. These are not considered defects. Only the elements, oxidation, and time cause the wood to turn this wonderful patina.
The barnwood is kiln dried before we uniquely craft each piece of furniture. You can expect saw marks and different textures between the various pieces of wood used in each piece of furniture, unless otherwise specified. These are the natural saw marks, natural imperfections, and weathered texture created over time. Occasionally, there may be some nail holes. These add character and are authentic to the history of the barn. When combined, the various textures and inherent character give each piece of furniture its own character – no two pieces are ever exactly alike and nor do we guarantee any piece will look exactly the same.
Important Note:
There is no warranty on cracks, warping, checking, or wood movement—whether using authentic barnwood or new wood—if not kept in a controlled humidity environment. These are natural characteristics of real wood and are not considered defects.
Warranty Coverage
1-Year Manufacturer’s Warranty – Furniture Construction
Prairie Barnwood Ltd. warrants to the original purchaser that for one (1) year from the date of purchase, we will, at our discretion, repair or replace any furniture with defects in material or workmanship.
2-Year Warranty – Finishes
We offer a two (2) year warranty on finishes. This covers excessive peeling, flaking, or fading under normal household use.
Warranty Exclusions & Limitations
This warranty does not cover:
•Cracks, warping, or wood movement (barnwood or new wood) caused by uncontrolled humidity.
•Commercial use, unless otherwise agreed to in writing (e.g., hotels, motels, restaurants, nursing homes).
•Normal wear and tear, including dents, scratches, scuffs, or finish changes over time.
•Damage due to improper care or environmental exposure, such as:
•Placement near heat sources (vents, fireplaces, radiators)
•Exposure to direct sunlight or high/low humidity levels
•Use of abrasive cleaners or harsh chemicals
•Floor models, “AS-IS” items, or unfinished furniture
•Delivery and shipping costs unless Prairie Barnwood Ltd. provided the original delivery
•Installation charges unless installation was included in the original Prairie Barnwood Ltd. service
Humidity Control Advisory
Wood is a natural material that responds to environmental conditions. To preserve your piece, maintain relative indoor humidity between 30–50% year-round. Exposure to high or low humidity can result in cracking, warping, joint separation, or discoloration. These conditions are not covered under warranty.
Submitting a Warranty Claim
If you believe your furniture has a defect covered under this policy, follow these steps:
1.Contact us at sales@prairiebarnwood.com or call (204) 822-5476 within one year of purchase for construction concerns, or two years for finish-related issues.
2.Include clear photos of the damage, your original order number, and a brief description of the issue.
3.Prairie Barnwood Ltd. may require a formal inspection to determine if the issue qualifies under warranty.
4.If repair is feasible, we will guide you through the process or provide necessary materials. If repair is not practical, a similar product of equal value will be provided.
Note: Claims for major warping or structural cracking may be deferred up to 12 months post-installation to allow the wood to acclimate to your home’s environment. This deferral does not count against your warranty period.
Sliding & Hinged Hardware Warranty
Hardware sourced by Prairie Barnwood Ltd. is covered under each supplier’s own warranty policies. We will assist you in facilitating the process, but warranty limitations include:
•Normal wear and tear
•Misuse or improper installation
•Labor and shipping costs are not covered
Only hardware defects directly related to manufacturing issues are covered.
Sliding & Hinged Door Warranty
Interior doors and cabinet doors manufactured by Prairie Barnwood Ltd. are covered under a one (1) year limited warranty for structural defects such as significant warping (greater than 1 inch).
This warranty does not cover:
•Minor warping (less than 1 inch)
•Knots, nail holes, color or texture variation, or other natural wood characteristics
•Doors used in exterior applications
•Doors modified after delivery
•Finishes applied by third parties
Warp is defined as movement within the door panel itself (not in relation to the frame). For doors between ¾” to 1 ½” thick, a variation of up to 1” in any 24” to 84” section is considered acceptable. Warranty claims for warping may also be deferred for up to 12 months after installation to allow for acclimation.
Additional Limitations
•Prairie Barnwood Ltd. will not be held responsible for consequential or incidental damages or losses beyond the repair or replacement of the product itself.
•If identical materials are not available, we reserve the right to use similar materials of equal or greater value.
•All claims must be reported within 30 days of discovering a defect and fall within the applicable warranty time frame.
•Modifying furniture beyond its original intended use voids the warranty.

This warranty provides you with specific legal rights. You may also have additional rights depending on your province or state. Prairie Barnwood Ltd. disclaims all other implied warranties, including merchantability and fitness for a particular purpose, to the fullest extent permitted by law.
